The Monkey and the Crocodile

The Monkey and the Crocodile

Once upon a time, on the bank of a river, there was a naughty monkey. The tree was laden with juicy and delectable mangoes and the monkey was blissful to stay there all by itself.

One morning, to the riverbank came a crocodile. He looked tired and hungry. The good monkey gave him a few of his mangoes. The crocodile ate the fruit and thanked the monkey. They became good friends from that point. The monkey brought him more mangoes every day.

The crocodile shared the tale of the monkey and the delicious mangoes with his wife one day. But the crocodile’s wife was greedy and she wanted to eat the heart of the monkey. She reasoned that it had to be very sweet since he ate so many mangoes.

And so the crocodile hatched a plan. He took the monkey to his house on the other side of the river. He had faith in his friend Monkey and accepted his proposal. Once they were in the middle of the river, the crocodile spoke, “I’m sorry, friend. My Wife Wants to Eat Your Heart.

The monkey was surprised but otherwise calm. He quickly thought of a plan. “Oh, no,” said the monkey, “You should have told me! I left my heart on the tree.”

The foolish crocodile trusted him and swam back to the tree. As they reached, the monkey leapt up on a branch and said, “You tricked me once, but I will not fall for it again! Goodbye!”

The crocodile hung his head in shame and left.

Moral of the Story: Stay calm and think wisely in difficult situations. Smart thinking can save you.
