There was a hungry dog looking to find something to eat, one fine morning. He had searched and searched for what seemed like a very long time before he had found a big, juicy bone lying in the road outside the butcher’s shop. Ecstatic, he snatched the bone up in his mouth and scampered off to a remote corner so he could chew it by himself.
On the way home, he had to cross over a stream on a little wooden bridge. While crossing it, he glanced down and saw his own reflection in the water. But the foolish dog took it for another dog with another bone!
Greedily wanting that “other” bone as well, he opened his mouth and barked at the image. But as he did so, one of his own bones slid out and dropped into the water, where it was lost forever.
The dog sat in misery and hunger, regretting his choice.
Moral: Greed can lead to loss. Be happy with what you have.
