It was a bright day when a crow found a piece of cheese. She was so pleased, and flew to a tree to have her treat. She perched on a branch, cheese in her beak.
A clever fox was walking by at that very moment. He observed the crow with the cheese and desired it for himself.
The fox smiled and said, “Hello there, pretty crow! Your feathers are so shimmery. I’ll bet you’ve got a sweet voice, too. Can you sing a song for me?”
The crow was puffed up with pride and began to show off her voice. She lifted her beak to sing and fell — plop! — down tumbled the roll of cheese!
The fox snatched away the cheese and said, “Thank you for the cheese, you silly crow!” Then he ran away laughing.
The crow felt sad. She had lost her cheese because she believed the fox’s sweet words.
Moral of the Story:
Beware of flattery. Don’t trust someone just because they say nice things.
